King Khalid University seeks to achieve the vision of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia 2030 and its national transformation program, so it prepared its strategic plan through which it hopes to achieve the objectives of the development programs for this generous country under the directives of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz, and his trustworthy Crown Prince, may God preserve and protect them. The core objectives of this plan are to reach leadership in distinguished research production in terms of quantity and quality and to spread the culture of sober scientific research concepts among male and female researchers alike. Now it is proud of its high rates of publishing its research outputs in scientific journals classified within the distinguished global publishing lists, and it aspires to more, God willing.

The College of Science occupies a prominent position among the university’s colleges for its prominent role in various educational and research fields and support work as it is characterized by an abundance of qualitative research production that has clearly contributed to improving the university’s research reputation and this is due to the nature and structure of the college and the multiplicity of its departments, centers and programs affiliated with it, in addition to it enjoys a number of a large number of faculty members, researchers and postgraduate students, their affiliation with it reflected positively on the research and scientific publishing movement, which made the university occupies a prominent position locally and internationally.

The College of Science includes a research center that works to achieve the goals of its strategic plan in cooperation and coordination with the Deanship of Scientific Research to reach a distinctive qualitative research production, in addition to activating cooperation with the relevant authorities to increase opportunities for research support and research partnerships, and to provide a supportive research environment that stimulates creativity and innovation. By organizing the participations and events of seminars and workshops, urging, encouraging, and activating the scientific research movement in the college and submitting its periodic reports.

Vision:

The Research Center at the College of Science aspires to achieve local and regional excellence and leadership in the quality and quantity of scientific research, and to raise the efficiency of the level of services provided to the community.

Mission:

The Research Center seeks to achieve the strategic objectives of the College of Science in cooperation and coordination with the Deanship of Scientific Research at the university to reach distinguished research production in terms of quantity and quality, activate cooperation with relevant authorities to increase opportunities for research support and research partnerships, and to provide a supportive and stimulating environment for creativity and innovation.

Objectives:

1. Supporting researchers and motivating them to publish their research output in the refereed and distinguished scientific journals that are classified in the international publishing lists.

2. Increase research and financing partnerships with relevant authorities.

3. Monitor the research faculty efficiency, in terms of quantity and quality.

4. Activating and supporting cooperation with the relevant authorities inside and outside the university in the fields of scientific research.

5. Increase scientific research support outlets.

6. Promoting a distinctive research infrastructure that allows researchers and students to conduct their research efficiently.

7. Contribute to preparing strategic and implementation plans for scientific research in cooperation and coordination with the Deanship of Scientific Research at the university.

8. Providing a supportive and attractive research environment.

9. Attracting distinguished researchers.

10. Raising the efficiency of the level of services provided to the community.

The Research Center carried out variety of activities and events at the level of departments and faculties. The most important of which is organizing the annual scientific research day for the College of Science with the participation of all scientific departments of both male and female sections.

The 13th Annual Scientific Research Day of the College of Science of the academic year 1438-1439 AH was held on Wednesday 25 -7- 1439 AH in the campus of King Khalid University, where the Director of the Research Center opened the meeting with a speech in which he welcomed the attendees and the participants. Then, the activities of the Scientific Research Day began by giving 12 lectures 3 scientific lectures for each of the college departments (Chemistry - Biology - Physics - Mathematics) Many researchers, members of the faculty and postgraduate students at the College of Science, participated in scientific posters amounting to 58 posters. All abstracts of scientific lectures and research posters have been included in a brochure for this event.

In conclusion, researchers from the faculty and graduate students nominated by the committee were honored for the best lectures and posters. Certificates were also provided to all participants in this event. Accordingly, the Center has been awarded by His Excellency the President of the University a memorial shield bearing the words of thanks and appreciation on the occasion of obtaining the first arrangement equally with the Research Center in Health Colleges as the best participation of the University Research Center within the activities of the 13th Scientific Research Week held under the auspices of the Deanship of Scientific Research.

 The Research Center at the College of Science was ranked first for the second year in a row as the best research center at the university level within the activities of the Scientific Research Week in exchange for organizing the 14th annual scientific research day for the academic year 1439-1440 AH on Monday 25 - 7 - 1440 AH, where the number of participants was 117. Oral presentations included about 12 scientific lectures from all departments and 105 research posters. The events were concluded with a word from the Director of the Research Center of the College, in which he thanked the participants and posts. Finally, certificates of attendance and participation were presented.

The scientific research indicators for the College of Science at KKU showed a remarkable increasing in the rates of the annual publishing in all departments. This  conclusively indicates the keenness and interest of His Excellency the President of KKU; Prof. Faleh bin Raja Allah Al-Salami and the Vice-Presidency for Graduate Studies to strive and achieve excellence and leadership in the field of scientific research, as one of the most important goals of its strategic plan.

The Deanship of Scientific Research at KKU exerts distinctive efforts in supporting and enriching the scientific research movement by providing financial support (according to the regulations and rules governing its work), to researchers and urging them to publish their research in highly ranked journals, which led to a paradigm shift in the field  of scientific research.
